พืชเบียน อาศัยเกาะตามรากของพืชอื่น ใบ ลดรูปเป็นกาบ หุ้มโคนดอก ดอก สีน้ำตาลแดง ออกเดี่ยว ดอกตูมเป็นก้อน กลมใหญ่ เมื่อบานเต็มที่รูปอ่าง กว้าง 60-75 ซม. แยกเพศ ปลายแยก เป็น 5 กลีบ ผิวด้านในมีตุ่มเล็ก กระจายทั่วไป ขอบถ้วยดอก มีเนื้อเยื่อติดเป็นรูปวงแหวน ตรงกลางเปิดเป็นช่องกลม บริเวณ ก้นดอกนูนเป็นแท่น มีรยางค์ปลายแหลมยื่นยาวทั่วไป ดอกเพศผู้ มีเกสร 25-30 อัน อยู่รอบโคนฐานดอก

Characteristics :

parasitic plant. Leaves reduced to scale-like around the base of the flower. Inflorescence solitary. Flower brownish-red, unisexual, coroniform, 60-75 cm in diameter; bud globose, large; perigone lobes 5, with scattered tiny circular numerous warts; diaphragm with a broad opening at the center; central disk flattened, with acute processes; stamens 25-30, situated around the overchanging rim of the column.

การกระจายพันธุ์ :

ภาคใต้ของประเทศไทย และมาเลเซีย เกาะอาศัยตามรากเครือเขาน้ำบริเวณป่าดิบชื้น ที่ระดับความสูง 500-1,000 เมตร ออกดอกช่วงเดือนธันวาคม-กุมภาพันธ์ เป็นดอกไม้ที่ใหญ่ที่สุดของโลก รองจาก Rafflesia arnoldii ที่พบในอินโดนีเซีย มีขนาดกว้าง 75-90 ซม.

Distribution :

Southern Thailand and Malaysia. The root parasitic species hosting on Tetrastigma spp. (Vitaceae). Found only in moist evergreen forests, at elevations of 500-1,000 m. Flowering from December to February. This species is the second largest flower after Rafflesia arnoldii from Indonesia, approximate 75-90 cm in diameter.
